For the best book and music selection in Havre de Grace, locals love Washington Street Books & Music. This local bookshop has been a staple business in the community for more than two decades. Their range of books, comics, music, and other novelty items is unmatched by any other local shop in the community.
Like we mentioned in our last post, we’re proud supporters of locally-owned and operated businesses in Havre de Grace. With that being said, we always try to shop small when we can and encourage other to do the same. These small businesses don’t just contribute to the local economy, but they also add unique character to our community. To continue on with our small business blog series, Dr. Richard Grubb takes a break from the typical oral health and dental implant blogs to give readers a brief look at Washington Street Books & Music. Looking for your next favorite book? Follow along to learn more about this local book and novelty shop.
Washington Street Books & Music is a quirky, one-of-a-kind bookshop that has plenty to offer book and music lovers in the area. You can find this unique shop located at 131 N Washington Street, which is less than a five-minute drive from our practice on S. Washington Street. You’ll find it across the street from The Vineyard Wine Bar.
This bookshop opened up in May 1992 with only a few books and antiques. Now, Washington Street Books & Music has a an impressive inventory ranging from different books and music to toys and collectibles. They boast an impressive 60,000 titles on their shelves covering plenty of genres. No matter what kind of reader you are, you’ll find something to fall in love with at this local bookstore. In addition to their variety of books, they also have rare books for collectors and a great selection of comic books for comic readers out there.
Movie or entertainment enthusiasts will also be happy to know that Washington Street Books & Music has plenty to offer them. This local store dove into entertainment related interests when they opened up their entertainment museum in the fall of 2015. This museum features original costumes and movie props that were used on-set. Movie fanatics can enjoy the excitement of seeing these props and costumes in-person at Washington Street Books & Music. With over 150 original movie costumes, including items from blockbuster hits like the Hunger Games or Last Samurai, avid movie lovers have plenty to browse through at this shop.
Another great perk of this local bookstore? They are committed to being a great spot for locals to come together in the community. They host special occasions, book signings, and other events for locals here in Havre de Grace to enjoy. On first fridays, they host book signing events where readers can get their book signed or personalized and speak with their favorite authors. They also have events to celebrate Magic the Gathering for locals with their friday night “Magic Tournaments” at 6:00 pm each week. They also host additional magic events on Sunday. As far as other events, their latest community event was just a few weeks ago where locals could celebrate Free Comic Book Day at Washington Street Books & Music. The celebration was a hit and is just another example of how this local bookstore makes a difference in our community.
Overall, we’d highly recommend this local shop for anyone in the community. For more information about this bookshop, visit the Washington Street Books & Music website.
